On Sunday, June 12th, the Mississippi Coast Coliseum and Convention Center will host the BBQ at the Beach Championship Cookoff, presented by CableOne and Miller Lite. It is the second year for this wonderful culinary event to celebrate everyone’s all time favorite style of preparing lip smackin, sauce slathered, grilled to perfection meats.
Up to twenty teams can compete in three categories: Chicken, pork ribs, and beef brisket. The panel of judges will be comprised of local chefs who are experts on the subject. Taste testers will also play an important role in the festivities. The People’s Choice Champion Award will go to the top two teams, judged by the general public.
Taste tester tickets will be available on a first come, first serve basis for $10.00 each. They go on sale at 2:00 p.m on Sunday, and not a moment before. 400 tickets will be available for purchase, and they go very, very fast. Each team will submit samples of their specialties for consideration in the competition for the People’s Choice Awards. Taste testers will be provided with voting tickets which will be tabulated in secret from individual sealed envelopes.
The 1st Place People’s Choice team will win $200.00, and the 2nd Place team will receive $100.00. All winning teams will also go home with special trophy to commemorate their accomplishment. Cash prizes and Miller Lite trophies will also be awarded in all three categories. The Judges Winner in each category will receive $400.00 for 1st Place. 2nd Place winners in each category will get a $250.00 cash prize.
If you want to show off your amazing barbeque skills and take part in this wonderful event, get your group together and fire up the grill!  The competition is open to all amateurs as well as professionals. The entry fee is $50.00 for each category or $125.00 for all three. Judging will be on a weighted scale from 1 – 10 with the following criteria: Appearance, Taste, and Tenderness. A perfect score will equal 40 points. The competition is shaping up to be really fierce, with all registered teams to date going head to head in all divisions.
