How do you make a 29-year old tradition that celebrates the food and drink of the Mississippi Gulf Coast even better? You make it bigger. And that is what the Gulf Coast Chapter of the Mississippi Hospitality and Restaurant Association, the group that hosts the annual Chefs of the Coast event, are planning. This year’s event has been expanded to a three-day event to give those traveling in for the festival even more entertainment.
The festivities begin on the evening of Friday, September 23 in Downtown Gulfport with the first ever Dash and Dine 3K Fun Run. This is a race like no other with prizes for Best Celebrity Chef Look-A-Like. Racers will enjoy beer samplings by FEB Distribution and special tasting from Downtown Gulfport restaurants. It is guaranteed to be the most fun you can have on two feet. Saturday afternoon holds the Stockpot Cook-Off at the Mississippi Coast Convention Center that was new to the schedule last year. The Stockpot Cook-Off is a family friendly event with professional chefs and amateur cooks preparing tastings for guests to be judged on their best Gulf Shrimp stockpot recipe. Saturday night has another event new to the schedule this year, and that is the Casino Cook Off also at the Convention Center. Participants can watch the casino’s best chefs battle it out for the title of the Southern Gaming and Destination’s Magazine Top Casino Chef. To wrap up the weekend, Sunday night holds the 29th Annual Chefs of the Coast, and this year’s theme is the Venetian Carnival. “Chefs of the Coast” Gala is the time-honored event of the year. The Coast’s hottest local restaurants will provide tasting portions of their favorite dish while wineries dispense samplings of perfect pairings amid live entertainment and the Food As Art competition by the local chapter of the American Culinary Federation.
Tickets can be purchase for single day events or for the entire weekend. Tickets can be purchased online at http://www.chefsofthecoast.org.
