In Nov. 12 and 13, the Mississippi Coast Convention Center will once again be transformed into Christmas City! Thousands of shoppers will enjoy a wonderland of Christmas magic, while they search for that perfect gift for family and friends. Ron Meyers has produced the Christmas City Gift Show for the past 28 years. It is an event that locals and visitors look forward to year after year. It has also become a Gulf Coast holiday tradition.
Meyers said, “First I bring unique and one of a kind vendors together in one location and provide and atmosphere of fun and excitement for the customers. This year we have added free holiday workshops, such as wreath making and holiday decorations.” This year promises to be the biggest ever, according to Meyers. Because of its economic impact on the Gulf Coast, and its family-friendly appeal, Christmas City was recognized as a Top 20 Tourism Event in the Southeast for 2010.
“Gifts for Everyone” is the overall theme this year; and with over 300 booths filled with clothing, jewelry, food items, soaps, candles, artwork, pottery, home décor, holiday decorations and unique treasures. No wonder it is one of the best loved South Mississippi attractions, year after year.
The Gulf Coast Quota Club, along with Walgreen’s, will host photos with Santa in which net proceeds benefit disadvantaged women and children. In addition, “Santa’s Workshop” will be open during the entire show, where children can create their own holiday crafts – free of charge. The North Pole will feature a giant play land, a Wii game trailer, a full cafeteria and strolling Christmas characters. The Lynn Meadows Discovery Center WINGS group and local choirs will also provide non-stop entertainment all weekend.
This year’s highlight will be the Sun Herald Festival of Trees. Local non-profits will be asking Christmas City shoppers to “vote” for the best decorated Christmas tree with cash donations and customers can also bid on these magnificent trees through a silent auction. The group that gets the most “votes” will receive an additional $1,000.00 from Ron Meyers Productions.
See ya there!
