Sweet Water Deli & Bakery

Paul Grimm has been in the restaurant business over 30 years and has chosen to bring his unique talents to the Mississippi Gulf Coast. He and his wife, Kim, opened Sweet Water Deli & Bakery in the Hardy Court shopping center next to Tuesday Morning. The restaurant makes all items in-house and has some items that locals are calling ‘fresh’ and ‘tasty’.  When we arrived, Kim was hard at work at one of the dining room tables shelling pecans for the restaurants many favorite dishes. The pecan tarts are a great seller!
The Reuben that they make has been dubbed ‘the best on the Coast’ by many clients because of its flavor that is rooted in old world style. The eatery employs 12 people. Every employee is specially trained to make each menu item to perfection.  The Pizzelle, for instance, is an Italian sweet cookie that looks beautiful on any party platter. The pralines and whoopee pies are the perfect texture and the sticky buns are huge. Locals like that the restaurant serves Barq’s in a bottle and roast beef poboys that rival others on the coast.
The menu sports a good selection of vegetarian dishes including a Portobello sandwich and Mediterranean Veggie Pizza. This is not your typical deli and bakery that thrives on the coast. The fresh mix of old and new, of north and south, brings this restaurant into a category as yet defined by modern perceptions.
The décor is inviting and decidedly different that in other restaurants. The homey feeling was created by the owners working with artists to put together a natural and relaxed feel for the guests. Rustic wood pieces mix with art that the owner bought at the Angola State Prison Rodeo and eclectic art gathered and commissioned specifically for the restaurant. The private dining room can accommodate up to 8 people and makes a business meeting or private party a comfortable and relaxing place to be.
Paul is working with the chefs at the restaurant to create an out-of-this-world King Cake recipe that will be ready by late January for the Mardi Gras season. Paul’s crew can set you up with a gallon of chicken and sausage gumbo or soup of the day so supper will be a no-brainer when you’re busy. Party platters can be ordered for pick up and the smoked meats are all to die for!

The deli and bakery is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sorry, Sweet Water is closed on Sundays. We recommend the smoked chicken salad, Sweet Water Grilled Tuna Steak and the breakfast biscuit with egg, cheese and spicy Cappicola Ham.
