Great Southern Club

The Great Southern Club is where fun meets elegance. Perched high atop the Hancock Bank Building in downtown Gulfport is the Great Southern Club. Amazing views abound in the dining room and ball room. The private club is open to non-members in the ballroom and banquet hall where the lights of the city can be breathtaking by night and the scenic landscape can seem to go for miles in the daylight.
Memberships are available by calling General Manager Jeff Hall at the club. “We do screen our members but everyone must realize that we are a down-to-earth club that understands the local’s lifestyles. Our fees are extremely low compared to other clubs but the amenities are quite extraordinary,” Hall said.
There are two chefs at Great Southern Club that rotate the dinner menus every 6 weeks and have added caviar, sushi and other items to their already lavish menu. Members can dine for lunch from the menu or the buffet for a small cost and families are welcome to join. If you prefer to be a little more intimate at dinner or need a quite place to meet for lunch, the team at Great Southern Club will be happy to reserve a private dining room for you. The private dining room seats 16 and has huge windows that look out over the north and east sides of the area. Reservations are highly recommended and all event booking requires that you discuss the details with one of the managerial staff prior to the event date. All holidays are by reservation only!
The ball room and banquet facility is grand with outstanding service, food and atmosphere. It’s booked well in advance and Jeff suggests getting your name on the books approximately a year in advance. When you book the room, you will be given choices of appetizers and foods that will be prepared served by professionals. The staff will work with you concerning decorations and special requests. Jeff calls the Great Southern Club a “private facility where special occasions become important and even a party of 2 is important to us.”
To go orders from the restaurant are available for members and non-members Monday-Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Longtime Assistant Manager, Denise Bartula says, “Mothers Day, Fathers Day and the Fourth of July are big days for the restaurant. The fireworks on the 4th are a spectacular sight from the high vantage point of the club. The bar area is cozy too and members can take advantage of the bartenders knowledge of mixology.”
Great Southern Club serves only Mississippi Gulf Safe Seafood and buys local veggies and fruits whenever possible. The dark roux seafood gumbo is rich and mild with huge shrimp and crabmeat pieces. The roasted garlic bread and olive loaf are a delight for carb lovers.
The club will host a Scotch Tasting Event on June 7th and a Prime rib dinner on the 16th which is the day before Fathers Day.
On July 20th and 21st, the club will have an Italian Weekend where the chefs will prepare special dishes that will whisk your mind away to the far corners of Italy.
August ushers in the school year and the Great Southern Club will feature “Back to School: Burgers and Blues”.
If you are interested in joining the Great Southern Club or booking your next event at the only high-in-the-sky banquet hall in the area, please call Jeff Hall or one of the fine Assistant Managers at 228-865-0200. Great Southern Club is located at 2510 14th Street .
