Panama City Beach

Close your eyes and picture yourself lounging in the sunshine on a sugar-white, sand beach with the surf lightly nipping at your toes. The water is a breathtaking aqua blue and so crystal clear that you can see fish swimming and dolphins playing as you look just a few feet out. Paradise awaits for the perfect summer getaway, and you can get there from here in just a matter of hours.
Panama City Beach is long known for its laid-back ambiance and natural beauty, It is the most wonderful place to go for honeymooners, families, and seniors – a fine time is guaranteed for all. Rest and relaxation is a given, but there are also all kinds of things to see and do when you leave the beachside. Stay for just a day or two or make it your ultimate vacation destination this summer…either way you will fall in love with Panama City Beach.
Shoes and shirts are optional and everything centers around life in the sun and on the water. Fishing boats fill the harbors, just waiting to whisk you away to the deep waters of the Gulf of Mexico. If you love to fight big game fish or just catch enough trout to eat for dinner, this is the place to be. Dan Russell Municipal Pier at Pier Park is the least expensive of the fishing options. For less than $10, you can catch cobia, King mackerel red fish and even flounder! There are restaurants that will cook your catch for a small fee. Check with the locals for the best tips on how to set up a “hook and cook” with a local eatery.
Kids love Panama City Beach for the attractions as well as the sand and sun. One of the best water parks ever created is Shipwreck Island just half a block from the beach. The entire park is shaded by old-growth trees and plenty of pavilions and seating areas. You won’t tire yourself out trying to walk from one ride to another because of the parks ingenious lay out. Water rides dot the 7 acres with huge speed slides, a lazy river, two kids’ areas, a wave pool and many other raft and water attractions. Prices are reasonable and actually beat most water park fees elsewhere. The food is good and park personnel are always close at hand to ensure your safety.
So, what if it rains? There are hundreds of things to do indoors in PCB too! Ripley’s believe it or Not Museum is located in the heart of town and there’s a new attraction just across the street. Wonder Works is an upside down building created with fun in mind. Wonder Works received the Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence for 2012. These two amazing places alone can take anywhere from 2 to 8 hours of your time depending on how deep you want to delve into the play and history of the two. And don’t forget, they’re air conditioned for those times when you just need to beat the midday heat.
Don’t forget to check out Zoo World! It’s one of the coolest, shadiest zoos that you’ll ever find. Birds roam free all through the park and you can even see pet shows and pet some of the animals. The original Goofy Golf is on Front Beach Road with many of the original, graphic-retro scenes you remember from your childhood.
Our favorite place to stay is the Holiday Inn Resort where all the rooms face the beach and native island hula dancers and fire masters perform every evening in a tiki torch lighting ceremony that’ll keep you awestruck. The hotel offers movies on the big screen on weekend nights at poolside and it’s all free to the guests! You can even watch from the tiki bar or have dinner at the poolside diner. Kid’s activities happen all throughout the day rain or shine and there’s even an arcade, kiddie pool/play area, two hot tubs and a waterfall in the huge beachfront pool.
We must mention the fabulous restaurants of PCB. Of course, there are seafood shacks, fine dining restaurants and tons of beachfront eateries but we are never disappointed when we eat at Hammerhead Fred’s. Located on Thomas Drive, you’ll know the place when you see the big shark hanging in the front parking lot. Our favorite thing is any of their fried seafood and the grilled catch of the day. Try the Fried Blue Crab Claw appetizer or the Biloxi Crab Cakes with Shrimp!
Rent a motorcycle, scooter or mini-car on Front Beach Road or take a Duck Adventure Tour through the streets of town where you’ll set sail on the local waterways without ever leaving your seat. Check out Shell Island, snorkel with the dolphins, parasail above this beautiful paradise or see it all with a beach tour in your own private helicopter.
