Welcome to a very special Olympic issue of GTP –
Our own Gulfport gold medal winner for the Long Jump, Brittney Reese, was kind enough to take time from her busy training schedule to talk with me from Berlin, Germany for an unprecedented Celebrity Chat. The Summer Olympic Games ended just weeks ago, yet Brittney is hard at work preparing for more track and field competitions and going to Rio de Janeiro in 2016! Our cover story celebrates the remarkable experience of two Gulf Coast chefs who were specially selected to cook for Team USA and participate in “Spirit of the Gulf” during the Olympics! They recently returned from London, England and shared their exciting story with us – taking us behind the scenes of their extraordinary adventure. Read all about it here!
Biloxi born entrepreneur, David “Bubba” Mattina, helped shape the night club entertainment industry on the Coast. He was a pioneer and a visionary, as well as a very colorful character! We proudly recognize his many accomplishments as our September Mover and Shaker.
This month we dine at Shaggy’s in Biloxi! It is the perfect place for some relaxation, fun and great food.

America came home with 104 medals, more than half of the medals came from swimming and track and field. Our own Brittney Reese from Gulfport won gold in the women’s Long Jump. Following her event, she proclaimed to millions of spectators and the television audience that South Mississippi meant everything to her, and she won gold for us all. (more…)
Brittney Reese dominates Track and Field. She just became the first American woman to win the Olympic long jump title since her mentor, Jackie Joyner-Kersee did it in 1988. Brittney is the reigning Olympic and World champion indoors and out. The state of Mississippi is her home, and she was raised in Gulfport. She graduated from Gulfport High School, then attended MGCCC and finished at Ole Miss. I had the pleasure of talking with her as she continues to train in Europe, following the Olympic Games in London. (more…)
Bubba Mattina was a pioneer in the realm of adult entertainment in the 1970’s. Mattina has always had a “spot on” instinct for what the public wants. He has excellent taste in music, design, and cuisine, and parlayed his talents into an exciting and very lucrative career as a night club and restaurant owner. David is his given name but he is known affectionately as Bubba. “If the day ever comes, and a bus is heading straight for me on the street, and I am not paying attention…if people scream out, Look out David! I’m a dead man,” he said. “I am Bubba.” (more…)
