All This…and So Much More
Scott and Jonathan Allen were born into an automotive industry family that began with their grandfather, Bert Allen, who opened his first dealerships in the 70’s. In 1987, with his son, David, by his side as General Manager, they opened Bert Allen Toyota together. David Allen finished buying out the Toyota franchise in late 90s and renamed it Allen Toyota. Then in 2002 David Allen acquired the Hyundai franchise and finally in 2004, the Scion franchise became part of the prestigious Allen group. Jonathan and Scott Allen, joined the management team with there father David Allen in 2007. That same year, Bert Allen retired and sold his dealerships Bert Allen GMC Pontiac and Mercedes Benz. This very successful family business has been thriving on the Mississippi Coast for over 40 years. Under the leadership of David Allen’s sons, the Allen Automotive Group is firmly ensconced here and continually rises above what is expected in automotive sales and service in South Mississippi. A 7 time President’s Award winner for Toyota Motor Sales USA, the Allen’s were just notified that they have won again for 2012. (more…)
Have you ever been to a football game or tennis match and thought about buying a t-shirt, team logo cup or hat and just didn’t do it? You can’t just go back and get them, right? Well, partially right. (more…)
Ocean Springs businessman, Arturo Barajas, has been hosting May Fest for seven years now. He does it for one reason, and one reason only…it brings him joy. He revels in seeing families stroll the streets of Ocean Springs, happy and safe. He is a music afficionado who loves all genres and eagerly gives bands the opportunity to shine and showcase their talents. May Fest also gives an array of mixed medium artists the beautiful setting in downtown Ocean Springs, where they can display and sell their work. The quaint little shops and charming restaurants that line the streets of downtown are open during the event with sales galore. Guests are welcome to “pop” in and dine or shop at their leisure. The day is packed with wonderful entertainment and great fun for all ages. The event kicks off with a 5 K run on Friday, May 10th, then shifts into high gear the next day beginning at 10:00 a.m. Late night is just for the adults with “after party” action at many of the OS bars and nightclubs. Mental illness is something we’ve heard a lot about in the past several months. Unfortunately, we’ve heard more about the extreme problems than about the everyday occurrences of living with mental illness in our communities. Mass shootings that have been in the news recently have stirred the concern for safety from people who have a mental illness. What few of those discussions are addressing is the fact that everyone is impacted by mental illness in one way or another. Some have family members, some work or go to school with people who live with a mental illness. According to the National Institute for Mental Health (NIMH), one in six people in the work place have received mental health services in the past year, or they have been diagnosed with a mental illness. And not all mental illnesses are created equal. Some are more severe than others. Two things need to be noted: People with mental illness are no more prone to violent behavior than any other sector of society, and recovery is possible for everyone with a mental illness, although the extent of that recovery varies from one individual to the next.
