Atlas Takes MMA Action to New Heights

AtlasFightsLLCLogo_v2Atlas Fights produced their first fight in February 2009 at the IP Casino Resort Spa which was promoted as “USA vs Brazil.” The contract was for one fight but because it was so successful, the IP executives wanted to arrange another Atlas event right away. The original business plan was to feature USA fighters against fighters from other countries but the expenses were prohibitive. Atlas went back to the drawing board. It was from this shift of the business plan that brought about the new brand,”Cage Rage.” The new Atlas brand was the perfect name and illustration for the big, rough and raw excitement of MMA. Atlas was off and running, ready for it’s second event at the IP with “Cage Rage 1.”
Cage Rage 1 brought in a huge crowd of crazed MMA fans and blew the lid off the IP. Atlas was offered the opportunity to sign a multiple fight deal at the venue that started it all. The casino wanted to feature an Atlas MMA event once per quarter. “We had evolved into a full fledged MMA promotional company and from that moment on, Atlas Fights took on a life of it’s own. “We are very grateful to the IP for it’s early faith in us. Thanks to the IP we were able to open our doors and bring this new kind of entertainment to the Coast,” owner Glenn Mattina said. With the success of the “Cage Rage” series, other opportunities for the Atlas Fights brand began.

Guitar’s and Cadillac’s in D’Iberville, Mississippi was one of the state’s largest night clubs. The cavernous venue could not have been better suited for Atlas, Cage Rage events. The demographic was also perfect for building an MMA fan base and introducing the brand. Two more Cage Rage fight cards took place at Guitar’s and Cadillac’s and the fans poured in. Word began spreading like wildfire about this new combat sport that had arrived in South Mississippi. Interest in MMA was off the chain and Atlas was at the center of it all.
MMA_Fight_Half_v1The next opportunity broadened the Atlas brand even further. Hattiesburg, Mississippi, home of USM and thousands of college students, was tailor made for MMA events. “Remington’s Hunt Club,” is the largest night club venue in the city and the owners were eager to strike a deal with Atlas. It was a golden opportunity to begin branding Atlas into a regional fight promotion company. Two very successful events took place at Remington’s Hunt Club. The demographic proved to be exactly what Atlas was looking for because tickets sold very quickly and the kids couldn’t get enough. Steadily Atlas was building the brand and a very healthy fan base. But the situation was about to take another big turn as MMA events through Atlas were in great demand closer to home.
Atlas next partnered with “Hard Rock Hotel & Casino” in Biloxi. It would be the second casino venture for Atlas, with a new brand to market the MMA events at the venue. The “Rock N The Cage” series was created to exemplify the totally cool and new vibe associated with the world famous Hard Rock name. Now Atlas would also be recognized for their partnership with the one and only Hard Rock, which included it’s upscale, wildly popular reputation. The contract would allow Atlas to promote it’s first all ages MMA event. It was a very exciting time, full of great promise. Unfortunately, a stipulation in the agreement did not permit the fights to be promoted by Atlas on weekends, only on Thursday nights. Four successful events took place at the very famous venue but the last one proved to break new ground for Atlas. “It was the most enjoyable, most memorable fight night to date. We featured the multi-platinum rock band, “Saliva,” immediately following the event. It was extraordinary,” Glenn Mattina said. Atlas was elevated to a new level with the fans. Never before had an MMA event included a national touring rock band in Mississippi. It was an extremely expensive production and the fans came out in record numbers. After a two year run with Hard Rock Biloxi, Atlas chose to go back to the original Cage Rage series and returned to the IP. “We had a new and exciting plan in place for the IP venue which was to refocus our brand recognition and awareness,” Mattina said. Eventually, the Cage Rage series was dropped and all MMA events were recognized under the Atlas Fights brand name only.
Cage_Rage_Letter_FlierThe city of Gulfport invested millions to rebuild and remodel Jones Park on the beach after Katrina. It would become one of the most beautiful and inviting outdoor entertainment facilities in the country. Atlas was approached to promote a premiere MMA event after the grand opening of the Park. “War on the Shore” took place in October, 2012. It was an incredible all ages welcome, all day affair, that was another huge success story for Atlas. Mattina was well versed in promoting outdoor music festivals and concerts, so the thought of doing the first outdoor MMA event was an exciting challenge that he was very eager for. Atlas pulled out all the stops and families enjoyed a wonderful day of combat sports, video gaming, college football and great food. Kids participated in MMA exhibition matches to the delight of their parents and coaches, and Atlas introduced the first XBox 360 UFC gaming tournament. Prizes were awarded to the winners and everyone had a great time. The evening was reserved for adult MMA fight competition and there were no empty seats. Once again, Atlas Fights created another “first” in Mississippi. Atlas is very pleased to announce that they will continue to present all ages MMA events, so be on the lookout for further information on facebook and the website.
A contract is in place to promote the first Atlas Fights event in Vicksburg, Mississippi at The Lady Luck Casino. The date is August 3, 2013. “This is an exciting partnership that both parties are extremely happy about,” Mattina said. Atlas continues to grow and develop as a regional MMA promotions company. They credit their success to an amazing staff, most of whom have been with them since the beginning. Everyone at Atlas shares the same passion and drive. The company is a great place to work for and provides a warm, family atmosphere for all the employees and the fighters. “It is a pleasure to work with such a skilled group of people who are so dedicated. They always give 100% and take such personal pride in creating outstanding events time after time,” Mattina said.

Angela Parent is the Publicist for Atlas who came on board early last year. In 2009, Parent became the first female MMA Judge Official in Louisiana, and as of 2012, a Judge Official with the Mississippi Athletic Commission. She writes all Atlas press releases, interviews fighters, and manages all social networking during the fights. “I love working for Atlas Fights because they respect the fighters and the entire crew associated with the company. We are a family that continues to grow fight after fight,” Parent said.

Cover-2Sponsorship is the most important component in the success of Atlas. A very attractive advertising package is included with all sponsorship of Atlas events. Companies receive cross advertising, including exposure on TV, radio, on posters, and during pre-parties and after parties. Company names are mentioned throughout the event, with logos on the big screens for all to see. Sponsors are also named as exclusive sponsors for one match per event. FEB Distributing (Miller Light) has been with Atlas since day one and they are very grateful for their continued support. Crown Royal is new to the Atlas family of sponsors, as is Allen Automotive Group, and Allen Beverages (Pepsi & Rock Star). Many hotels on the Coast offer special rates for Atlas MMA weekend packages which is a great incentive for guests to stay and play beyond the night of the event.
Atlas fighters are extremely proud to represent Atlas. They know fighting for Atlas means they will receive ultimate respect and the absolute best opportunity for maximum promotion of their talent and their sport. They are energized by the huge crowds of fans that fill the seats and show their support every single time. With continued growth and expansion of Atlas, the sky is the limit. Glenn is fond of saying, he will see you at the top…and there is no doubt Atlas will be there.
