Have you been trying in vain to get your kids up off the couch to get more exercise? Do you want them to be lifted up in their confidence and spirit? Wish their self-esteem could be up more than down? Maybe you just want them to look up to something bigger than themselves for a change.
If you answered yes to any of these questions then it could be time to turn to Upward Sports. Since 2006, First Baptist Church of Gulfport has been a host for Upward Sports in the surrounding community. Kids and their parents say that Upward gave them more confidence, spiritual fulfillment and peace of mind than any other sports associations ever has.
It’s not that other organizations do a bad job with kids. It’s just that Upward does things a bit differently. For instance, Upward volunteers are always submitted to a strict background check, no child is EVER turned away because of a lack of skill, practices are only 1 hour a week and games are only 1 hour each Saturday.
Upward Sports can be found partnering with churches all over the United States.
Upward emphasizes the benefits of smaller teams where kids are placed with compatible players. There is always a fair team makeup. This is where your child gets to play in the game each week no matter what their skill level.
At First Baptist Church Gulfport the registration for the 2014 soccer season will begin February 1st with player evaluations on February 6th and 13th from 5:30p.m. to 7 p.m.
Right now, FBCG is in the middle of the Upward Basketball season that runs from January to early March. Soccer will begin near the end of March and conclude with a special awards ceremony in May. Every participating child receives end of season recognition and an award.
Team and individual photos will be offered for a fee.
Uniform fees are $60 for the basic package and an extra $15 for matching uniform shorts. Late registration is $75. A limited number of scholarships may be available through First Baptist Church Gulfport.
Director for Upward at FBCG is a lady with a passion for the Lord and for every child, Carol Leggett. Carol has been in this position since 2009. She took 2013 off from the Directors position but still found time to volunteer in other areas of Upward.

Watch for flyers that should be sent to the parents and guardians of all students in the Harrison County School District and through Gulfport Schools in February.
