2014 Harbor Fest

harbor festFamily oriented fun is back in a big way. Ron Meyers Productions has teamed up with the Humane Society of South Mississippi (HSSM) and BBQ World to make this year’s Harbor Fest one for the record books.
Harbor Fest will be held Saturday, March 29th from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Jones Park in Gulfport. Unlike other events on the coast, this one ENCOURAGES families to bring their leashed pets to join in the fun, making it the only truly pet-friendly festival on the Mississippi Gulf Coast!
Harbor Fest features a little bit of something for everyone—Mom can shop 100+ arts & crafts vendors while Dad samples BBQ, the kids ride the Kid’s Village train, and Fido gets an updated Rabies vaccination.
Last year’s Harbor Fest saw between 6,000 and 8,000 people attend—not counting the numerous four-legged family members who joined in the fun.
Live music from The Mulligan Brothers and The Chris Weaver Band will fill the air as thousands gather with their pets to enjoy this springtime festival.
In the HSSM Pet Village more than 10 local and regional animal rescue groups will have adoptable pets on hand, each who is looking for a new home. HSSM will also host a $5 Rabies and Microchip Clinic, during which nearly 1,000 pets received services in 2013. Lastly, HSSM will host a pet-owner look-a-like contest for more fun with your four-legged family members.
Krystyna Schmitt, Marketing Specialist for HSSM, is more excited this year than last, “We weren’t sure how Harbor Fest was going to go last year, but seeing so many people out having fun WITH their pets was awesome—it was a beautiful day and a beautiful event.”
Admission to the festival is $5. All those under 16 will attend free—and even better, each of the first 1,000 kids to arrive at Harbor Fest will get to pick an Easter egg that contains anything from a coupon to a local restaurant or business to the grand prize: a shiny new bike! So make sure you arrive early to take your chance.
True to its family-friendly roots, Harbor Fest will have a devoted Kid’s Village, which will feature a petting zoo, ride-on train, bounce houses and more to keep the kids entertained for hours.
Another partner that has teamed up with Ron Meyers is Terry Welch, owner of BBQ World in Long Beach. BBQ World is sponsoring a 25+ team BBQ competition with over $5,000 in cash and prizes up for grabs. The competition teams will range from back yard BBQ amateurs to professional and restaurant teams. Savory and saucy treats will be served by many of the competitors to please any BBQ connoisseur.
Over 100 arts and crafts vendors will be on hand to provide a great shopping experience. Hand crafted wreaths, wind chimes, t-shirts, art, and more will be available. There is sure to be something to suit every shopaholic’s palette.
Vendor applications and BBQ Team entries are still being accepted. But whether you’re a crafter or you think you grill up the best BBQ around, make sure you get your application in by March 27. Vendor and BBQ entry forms, as well as more information about the 2nd Annual Harbor Fest may be found at http://www.ronmeyersproductions.com.
