Mississippi Gulf Coast Charter Boat Captain’s Deep Sea Fishing Challenge 2014

imageThere’s just no way to explain the adrenaline rush you get when you hook into a monster, salt water behemoth that outweighs you by a hundred or more pounds! Picture yourself on the stern of a beautiful boat, the warm gulf breezes blowing, an ice cold drink by your side and a sturdy rod and reel in your hand. Now see yourself cashing a check for $5000. The two daydreams go hand-n-hand with the Mississippi Gulf Coast Charter Boat Captain’s Deep Sea Fishing Challenge 2014 beginning July 11th and running through August 17th.
Aboard the Three Sons IV charter boat, you will find Captain Bobby Williams, Sr. at the helm. Capt. Bobby and Mike Gusa, Co-owner of High Times Charters, started the fishing challenge in 2011 with 10 other charter boat captains as a way of bringing tourism to the coast. That first year, the prizes and funds came out of the captains pockets. The second year, the tournament was funded by a BP grant of approximately $160,000. Money that was not easy to obtain.
“The 2014 challenge has been awarded $147,000 because we simply have learned how to streamline things with our past experience and the fact that our initial startup costs are now out of the way so we didn’t have to ask for as much this year, “Captain Bobby said.
The simple way to explain how this FREE tournament works is by breaking it down into what participants have to do to qualify. First, book a charter on one of the boats listed on the tournament website by calling a captain directly. Each captain sets his own price for a charter trip. Secondly, get on the boat and fish like you’ve never fished before! It’s that easy. The captains will take care of finding the best fishing spots, rigging your rod and reel, helping you weigh your catch and recording everything for you. All you do is enjoy yourself and accept whatever prize you and your fish are entitled to.
The grand prize this year is $5,000, a 4-night stay at a participating local casino resort, a $300 dinner voucher and an 8 hour charter fishing trip. Second prize is $1,000 in each category and a new rod and reel combo. Third prize will be a $500 seafood package from Quality Seafood in Biloxi.
A total of $55,000 is up for grabs this year. The categories are Cobia, Red Fish, Spanish Mackerel, King Mackerel and Shark. Catch the largest one in any category and you win! Competitors will also be vying for the largest Bonita and Tarpon to walk away with a very special prize.
Kids 14 and under can participate in the children’s division and be eligible to win a brand new reel EVERY WEEK of the tournament.
There is a new addition to the challenge this year; a women’s division. First prize in the women’s division is $1,000. However, if a woman wins the overall in the entire tourney, she will get the grand prize PLUS $1,000 extra!
