Gobble Wobble Food Drive & Let’s Glow Festival

Untitled-1With the holidays fast approaching, it is certain that the needs of those in our communities are many. There are ways that you can help and have a great time doing it.

First, the Salvation Army kicks off their annual Christmas campaign with the 1st Ever Let’s Glow Festival on Friday, November 21st at the Salvation Army Kroc Center on Division Street in Biloxi from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

This event celebrates “everyday angels” in our midst that give of themselves all year long. Events will include a 2 mile walk on the track, Zumba, arts and crafts, bounce houses and lots of glow-in-the-dark activities. Food will be available from the concession stand.

This will be your first chance to adopt an angel from the 2014 Salvation Army Angel Tree and to make donations for the coming holidays. Chairpersons, Windy and Jon’elle Swetman and their family will select the first angel from the tree.

For this year’s Christmas campaign you will see angel trees and red kettles across the coast as volunteers take time to give back with service and love. The Red Kettle Campaign began in San Francisco in 1891. The 2014 Red Kettle goal is to raise $485,000 across the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

Last year, over 3,000 children in the lower 6 South Mississippi counties had a Christmas because of your generosity. The funds gathered from this campaign serve the less fortunate all year long by providing for the Salvation Army’s many programs.

If you would like to be a bell ringer or serve hot meals to those in need this Christmas season please call 228-207-2303 or visit http://www.salvationarmymscoast.org.

The next event that will surely make you get into the spirit of giving is the 5th Annual Gobble Wobble Food Drive & Bridge Run. Hosted by the North Bay Civitan Club of d’Iberville and St. Martin, this exciting FUNdraiser will be another way for you and your family to give while receiving. Held on Saturday, November 22nd from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., participants and attendees will meet at the foot of the Biloxi-Ocean Springs Bridge on the O.S. side to drop off their non-perishable foods, canned goods and sugar and run or walk the bridge at sunset.

Participants 12 and older must complete a registration waiver and remit 10 food items or $10 for their entry fee. Pre-registration ends November 15th at 5 p.m. Race day registration will be from 3:30 p.m. until 5 p.m. Don’t forget to order your limited edition t-shirt when you pre-register!

The food items will serve needy coast residents during the Thanksgiving season by pre-stocking the shelves for The Lord is My Help food pantry and soup kitchen in Ocean Springs. If you are a competitive runner, you could receive a trophy! For those who just aren’t the “running type”, feel free to walk behind the group that leads the pack.

To make this event even more fun, participants are encouraged to dress in all their holiday costume regalia. Come as a turkey, pumpkin, giant pie or even a bale of hay! So, if you happen to be driving across the bridge that Saturday and you see a bunch of turkeys trotting along, please stop at the foot of the bridge on the O.S. side and show your support with a generous donation.
