Nancy’s Celebrity Chat

Nancy Marchbank interviews celebrities appearing on the MS Gulf Coast.

Olympic Gold Medalist, Brittney Reese

Brittney  Reese dominates Track and Field. She just became the first American woman to win the Olympic long jump title since her mentor, Jackie Joyner-Kersee did it in 1988. Brittney is the reigning Olympic and World champion indoors and out. The state of Mississippi is her home, and she was raised in Gulfport. She graduated from Gulfport High School, then attended MGCCC and finished at Ole Miss. I had the pleasure of talking with her as she continues to train in Europe, following the Olympic Games in London.  (more…)

The Carnival of Madness Tour and CPR Fest 16 will bring back one of the Coast’s favorite Alternative bands, Chevelle. They have sold over 3 million albums in the United States alone, and are currently enjoying tremendous success again with their most recent release, “Hats Of To The Bull.” Chevelle is a family affair, with brothers Pete and Sam Loeffler, and brother-in-law, Dean Bernardini. They play hard hitting, chest pounding, in your face music, that grabs you and doesn’t let go – these guys are phenomenal. Sam Loeffler, the drummer of Chevelle, is my very special guest. (more…)

Nancy’s Celebrity Chat with BELLO NOCK

I spoke with this remarkable man just hours before he walked across a highwire above the 32 story Beau Rivage Resort and Casino in Biloxi. He is Bello Nock, comedic daredevil and international circus star who headlines Fata Morgana, the Cirque-Style Extravaganza being performed this summer at the Beau from June 26 through August 19. Bello holds the distinction of completing the first ever high wire walk across a cruise ship at sea and was recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records for this accomplishment. He has also been deemed, “America’s Best Clown” by TIME magazine. When I interviewed Bello, he was the epitome of calm, cool and collected – not a care in the world, eager and ready to make history on the Gulf Coast with his death defying stunt high atop the magnificent Beau Rivage. Bello looks like no one else with his wonderful “mile-high” blonde hair and his beautiful, big smile that lights up a room. He is charming, funny and a joy to be around. (more…)

Donna Summer’s music swept us away in the 70’s, with one of the most powerful and amazing voices ever.  She has sold over 100 million records, won 5 Grammys, had 4 – # 1 singles, and garnered 14 Top 10 Pop singles. Her name and Disco are synonymous, but this breathtakingly beautiful songwriter also expresses herself through many other styles and genres. On Friday, August 20th, the IP will proudly present the incomparable Donna Summer.
GTP: I know touring is second nature to you, but is the journey sweeter now or was it sweeter when your career was new?
DS: “I think I am smarter now and I do things differently. When I was younger, I used to burn the candle at both ends and it was too much. Now I know how to pace myself, I know what I need to do but I do it gracefully. It all turns out pretty well.” (more…)

Nancy’s Celebrity Chat with the Motor City Madman, Ted Nugent

On the night of Friday, July 16th, The Hard Rock Live will bust wide open when Ted Nugent and his band take the stage for a concert that will undoubtedly blow the roof off. With over 6,000 performances to his credit, Ted Nugent is the undisputed master of the Gibson Byrdland guitar. He is also a fascinating individual who never shys away from controversy, and always stands up for what he believes in.

GTP: When did you discover you had this mammoth talent with the guitar?
TN: “I was born just a few years after Les Paul had just invented the damn thing, but it was Bo Diddley and Chuck Berry who really utilized the instrument, and I was really paying attention. I learned really young and it was raw and pure. I wanted to replicate the emotion and the outrage that I heard. I was so hooked into that whole Motown vibe, and loved the primal scream of the guitar. Even today, I am constantly discovering new sounds, new grinds and patterns…I play every day, 15 minutes here – 15 minutes there, all day long.” (more…)
