Welcome to our April edition of GTP. I conclude my visit with baseball great, Barry Lyons in Part II of his remarkable story. It’s a very exciting time for the Coast as construction is in “full swing” on the first ever Minor League Baseball stadium! For Barry Lyons it is a dream come true.

It’s time again for the Coast’s most favorite water events, Smokin the Sound and Smokin the Lake! We have the exciting scoop about a new collaboration and plans to create a multi-site invitational power boat racing series starting with this year’s competitions! Read all about it here!

The Biloxi Chamber will host “Uncorked” A red carpet extravaganza reminiscent of a real Hollywood premiere. The event takes place at the IP Casino Resort Spa and it’s going to be one for the record books!

Smokin the Sound & Smokin the Lake

Get ready for one of the most exciting events ever to hit the coast! It’s time once again for thrills on the water as Smokin the Sound and Smokin the Lake return for their annual powerboat racing extravaganza.

This year, the producers of Smokin the Sound have collaborated with Lake Race in Lake Ozark, Mo. in hopes of developing a future multi-site invitational powerboat racing series beginning with the 2014 competitions.

And Bea just opened their brand new 2,200 square foot location, 2 doors down from the original store on Lamey Bridge Road, D’Iberville.

PART 2 – BILOXI’S OWN BARRY LYONS

In 1996, the Texas Rangers released Barry Lyons during the latter part of Spring training. He had other opportunities available which included returning to AAA baseball but his heart just wasn’t in it anymore. He was eager to go out under his own terms and finish his career in the Major Leagues. Going back home for some much needed R & R was the first order of business. That same summer, Lyons was approached by a local independent league franchise just south of Nashville to play ball and manage the team. He was very interested in the management opportunity but did not want to do both. “I wanted to move forward and my days as a player were behind me. It was time to try something new,” he said. Barry Lyons served as manager for one season but then was hired by the Cincinnati Reds to be a manager in their organization for the next two seasons.

Review: NON-STOP (PG-13)

The film has received a mix of good reviews and some less than stellar reviews from the beginning of it’s release. If you are a Liam Neeson fan, an action fan, and you like mysteries and aircraft then this is the film for you. If you are someone who uses a line of logic to determine the actual worth of film, then I urge you to bypass the full ticket price and go straight to RedBox for a couple bucks.

Uncorked, Hollywood and Vines

Think long Versace gowns and strappy, diamond-studded stilettos on svelte figures of movie icons. Imagine men of stage and screen in Armani and Ralph Lauren tuxedos, their hair freshly trimmed and smelling of expensive cologne.

Now picture yourself walking the red carpet next to those famous screen stars. Parrarrazzo snap pictures as the lights of the cameras flash in rapid succession. No, you’re not at a fancy Hollywood premiere but you might as well be with all the excitement in the air.
